Introduction

 

We are seeking a Chief Product Engineer to join our Bulk Material Handling Product Engineering team within our Servies Business Area. You will be responsible for leading our BMH engineering strategy and overseeing a diverse product portfolio, including Apron Feeders, Belt Feeders, Rotary Car Dumpers, Conveyor Belts, Bucketwheel Stacker Reclaimers, and more. Your role plays a crucial part in driving product innovation, ensuring engineering excellence, and supporting our aftermarket initiatives, contributing to our position as a leader in mining equipment design.

 

In this position, you will report to the Senior Manager of BMH Engineering. Based in Pittsburgh, PA, the role offers flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options, and requires approximately 20% travel annually. We are currently enhancing our aftermarket capabilities, supporting Engineer-to-Order projects, and working on new product developments to meet evolving customer needs.

What you’ll do

 

  • Develop and execute an engineering strategy that drives product innovation and aligns with the company’s vision and goals for BMH.
  • Supervise and direct engineering activities, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Champion research and development initiatives, leading the creation of groundbreaking products and technologies in the BMH sector.
  • Oversee engineering of upgrades, modifications, and repairs for existing equipment to enhance performance and extend service life.
  • Provide advanced engineering support during equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime and optimize efficiency.
  • Lead and mentor a global engineering team, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing, best practices, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as the technical authority on complex engineering challenges within the BMH Product Engineering team.
  • Ensure engineering documentation is accurate, comprehensive, and compliant with industry standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the engineering department to enhance efficiency, innovation, and quality.

 

Who you are

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Preferably over 15 years of experience in mechanical engineering with a strong focus on bulk material handling equipment in the mining industry.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role, managing engineering teams in a global environment.
  • Expertise in CAD software (such as AutoCAD and Inventor), with a deep understanding of mechanical systems, material selection, and power transmission.
  • Strong background in managing and resolving equipment breakdowns under pressure.
  • In-depth knowledge of BMH equipment, including Apron Feeders, Belt Feeders, Rotary Car Dumpers, and Bucketwheel Stacker Reclaimers.
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to engineering challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to stakeholders at all levels. Proficiency in English is required; additional languages such as Spanish are a plus.
  • Visionary leader with the ability to drive innovation and inspire teams to achieve ambitious goals.
