Introduction to the Role
The Product Specialist - Crushing will drive customer success by maximising crusher performance, reliability, availability, and safety while providing world-class technical support and contributing to continuous improvement of Metso's crushing solutions and services. The role will leverage technical information, equipment data, CRM case management, and professional reporting to deliver measurable operational and commercial outcomes for both customers and Metso.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support & Troubleshooting
- Serve as a subject matter expert on crushing equipment including jaw crushers, cone crushers, gyratory crushers, and crushing plants.
- Provide advanced technical expertise in troubleshooting, maintenance, operation, and optimisation
- Serve as the primary technical specialist for crushing technologies, supporting customers, field service teams, and sales teams
- Investigate equipment failures, process deviations, and operational issues using structured root cause analysis methodologies.
- Provide technical input for crushing circuit upgrades, modernisation projects, and equipment selection activities.
- Escalate complex technical issues to Tier 2 support teams, (product and Engineering) teams when required.
Customer & Site Support
- Provide remote and on-site technical support for crushing equipment throughout the equipment lifecycle.
- Support installation, commissioning, audits, process optimisation, and performance guarantee testing activities.
- Review crusher inspections and condition assessments, providing recommendations for corrective actions and lifecycle improvements.
- Support escalated warranty issues, customer complaints, and lead critical technical issues resolution
- Work closely with customers to optimise crushing circuit performance, liner utilisation, availability, and maintenance strategies.
Data Analysis & CRM Management
- Analyse operational, maintenance, reliability, and performance data to identify trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor and manage technical support cases within Salesforce CRM, ensuring timely updates, accurate documentation, and effective resolution.
- Own the end-to-end case management process including prioritisation, escalation, customer communications, and closure.
- Review CRM case trends and service metrics to identify recurring issues, response time improvements, and product improvement opportunities.
- Prepare high-quality internal reports, management summaries, customer reports, and executive presentations using technical and operational data.
- Manage improvement initiatives through analysis of service data, customer feedback, and operational performance trends.
Sales & Commercial Support
- Support Product Sales, Service Sales, and Account Managers with technical consultation and customer presentations.
- Assist in the development of technical solutions, service agreements, and retrofit proposals.
- Provide technical guidance for spare parts identification, crusher upgrades, and aftermarket opportunities.
Knowledge Management & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, work instructions, and best-practice recommendations.
- Contribute to technical knowledge databases and support the global crushing technical community.
- Monitor and analyse CRM case data to identify recurring issues, response time trends, and improvement opportunities.
- Facilitate customer workshops focused on crusher optimization, maintenance best practices, safety, and operational excellence.
- Review and communicate technical bulletins, product updates, service advisories, and safety notices.
Training & Capability Development
- Develop and deliver technical training programs for customers, field service personnel, and internal stakeholders.
- Support competency development and certification programs for crushing technologies.
- Act as a mentor and technical resource for service and support teams.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure full compliance with Metso and customer Quality, Environment, Health & Safety (QEHS) requirements.
- Promote safe work practices during site visits, commissioning activities, inspections, and technical interventions.
- Maintain accurate Installed Base (IB) information and equipment operational records within CRM systems.
What you will need to succeed:
Skills & Experience - Essential
- Extensive hands-on experience with crushing equipment, including jaw crushers, cone crushers, gyratory crushers, and complete crushing plant operations.
- Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting, fault finding, and performance optimisation of crushing equipment in mining, aggregates, or mineral processing environments.
- Strong knowledge of crushing circuit design, operation, maintenance, and process performance improvement.
- Experience conducting root cause analysis (RCA) and implementing corrective actions to resolve equipment failures and recurring operational issues.
- Proven ability to analyse operational, reliability, maintenance, and performance data to identify trends and drive equipment improvements.
- Experience providing technical support directly to customers, including site-based support, audits, commissioning, inspections, and performance testing.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, service teams, engineers, sales teams, and senior management.
- Experience preparing professional technical reports, customer presentations, recommendations, and executive summaries.
- Working knowledge of CRM or case management systems, including documentation, prioritisation, escalation management, and customer communication processes.
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance, with demonstrated experience working within Quality, Environment, Health & Safety (QEHS) frameworks.
Skills and Experience - Desirable
- Degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related technical discipline.
- Previous OEM experience supporting crushing products, preferably within Metso, Sandvik, FLSmidth, Weir, Terex, or similar organisations.
- Experience supporting aftermarket services, including spare parts identification, upgrades, retrofits, service agreements, and lifecycle solutions.
- Experience developing and delivering technical training programs for customers, service personnel, and internal stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Salesforce CRM or similar service management platforms, including service analytics and reporting capabilities
