Introduction to the Role

The Product Reliability Specialist will drive customer success by maximizing equipment reliability, availability, maintainability, safety, and lifecycle performance across Metso's installed base.

The role will lead Product Problem Management programs, defect elimination initiatives, root cause investigations, lifecycle optimization activities, and maintenance strategy development while providing advanced technical leadership to customers, Product Support, Engineering, and Services teams.

The role will leverage reliability data, equipment performance information, CRM case management, and professional reporting to deliver measurable operational, reliability and commercial outcomes for both customers and Metso.

The position is based in Perth, Australia and reports to the Product Support Manager – APA.

As our Product Reliability Specialist, you will:

• Lead Product Problem Management, Root Cause Analysis and defect elimination initiatives to resolve recurring equipment issues and improve reliability.
• Investigate complex equipment failures, warranty issues and reliability concerns, driving corrective actions through to successful implementation.
• Develop and optimise maintenance and asset lifecycle strategies to improve equipment availability, component life and total lifecycle value.
• Analyse equipment, maintenance and reliability data to identify trends and deliver measurable performance improvements.
• Conduct asset health assessments, reliability audits and lifecycle reviews, identifying opportunities for upgrades, modernisation and digital solutions.
• Provide expert on-site and remote technical support for commissioning, shutdowns, inspections and major reliability incidents.
• Partner with customers and internal teams to develop long-term reliability improvement roadmaps and lifecycle solutions.
• Support commercial teams by identifying reliability, aftermarket and lifecycle improvement opportunities and developing supporting business cases.
• Share technical knowledge through reliability standards, reports, workshops, training and mentoring.
• Champion safety, quality and risk-based asset management, ensuring compliance with Metso and customer QEHS requirements.

Your impact will be measured through improved equipment reliability and availability, fewer repeat failures, extended component life, reduced warranty and quality costs, and improved customer outcomes.

Essential skills and experience

• Well-developed experiences in reliability engineering, asset management or product support within mining, minerals processing or a similar heavy industry.
• Demonstrated experience leading Root Cause Analysis (RCA), failure investigations and defect elimination initiatives.
• Sound knowledge of maintenance strategy development, including preventive, predictive and condition-based maintenance.
• Experience improving equipment reliability, availability, maintainability and lifecycle performance.
• Analytical skills with the ability to interpret equipment, maintenance, condition monitoring and reliability data and translate findings into practical improvements.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical investigations and improvement initiatives from identification through to implementation and verification.
• Well-developed technical knowledge of mechanical and/or process equipment and equipment failure mechanisms.
• Excellent problem-solving, technical reporting and communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
• Customer and stakeholder management skills, including confidence engaging with site teams, engineering specialists and senior stakeholders.
• Highly engaged commitment to safety, quality and risk management, with the ability to provide both site-based and remote technical support.

Highly regarded

• A relevant engineering, reliability or asset management qualification.
• Professional certification or training in RCA, reliability, asset management, condition monitoring or Lean/Six Sigma.
• Previous mining, minerals processing or OEM experience.
• Experience with digital reliability tools, condition monitoring, CMMS/EAM and CRM systems.
• Experience developing reliability business cases, lifecycle solutions, technical training or reliability workshops.
