Introduction and Team you will belong to
Product Technical Support Engineer is responsible for providing process technical support to our customers and internal stakeholders in the Asia Pacific Market Area. The primary focus in the short term is the support of key Stirred Mill customers with operational improvement and equipment optimisation. Stirred Mills at Metso is inclusive of HIG Mills, VTMs, SMDs, Tower Mills etc.
This will include ongoing site presence to support both internal and customer stakeholders with analysing and interpreting equipment operating data, assisting with equipment audits and plant surveys, communicating information and findings between stakeholders, and leading improvement initiatives with the customer.
Please be aware that the travel requirements for this position can be at times upwards of 50%.

The Role
- Provide process technical support for customers within the Asia Pacific Region, including Plant Operations Support, Metallurgical Optimisation, Data Analysis & Reporting, and Continuous Improvement.
- Participate in regular site-based visits, with the intention of providing product-based process technical support. Work closely with the Technical Sales Support Team to identify customer needs and potential opportunities.
- Provide Site Visit reports and technical recommendations.
- Assist with the scoping, execution and analysis of process audits and surveys of customer equipment, both to identify issues, and rectify issues and as part of improvement initiatives.
- Assist with lab-based testwork to support on-site optimisation initiatives.
- Support commissioning and ramp-up of new plants or circuits.
- Keep abreast of new developments in industry by reviewing current technical literature, seminars, trade shows, technical associations, etc.
- Encourage customers to avail themselves of our service capability to develop funded regular programmed field inspections of our equipment.
- Demonstrate a cooperative team approach and collaboration with local and global Metso teams, working both on the product and with process support.
- Develop a thorough working knowledge of products.
- Provide feedback to all stakeholders on opportunities on site and develop these opportunities where appropriate.
- Assist Sales Department and Proposals in equipment selection and sizing, technical clarifications, and technical clarification meetings.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
Essential
- A chemical engineering/metallurgy degree or similar with five years related experience in a process engineer/metallurgist environment, preferably working with Stirred Mill equipment.
- Proven ability to apply technical principles and scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Intermediate computer literacy with various types of office-based software skills.
- Experience with metallurgy-specific tools such as METSIM, JKSimMet.
- Experience with process simulation and modelling, and statistical data analysis of site process data.
- Must have current motor vehicle license and passport.
- Must be able to travel both domestic and overseas.
- Must be able to pass random medical and drug tests.
- Ability to work in and make a positive and professional contribution to a team environment.
- Well-developed presentation skills, oral and written communication skills with good negotiation ability.
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to identify, understand and interpret customer needs and provide timely solutions utilising the available technical and market support resources.
- Ability to build and nurture strong customer relationships, including at senior levels, and manage relationships with both customers and consultants to maximise business opportunities.
- Ability to develop sound business strategies to achieve objectives and company goals.
