Metso is seeking a local Quality Manager to lead the quality development of this newly established product line within the Vadodara, India office. This leadership role will help ensure that all Metso and Metso customer quality requirements are met and to drive continuous improvements.

 

Team You Belong To:

 

You will be joining a global, multidisciplinary team that collaborates with product specialists, specialized engineering, field service personnels, proposal tea and sourcing professional across multiple regions.

 

You will support and guide the quality of the Gearbox and Drivetrain product line based on Metso global quality expectations.

 

This role will report into the Director of Reliability Engineering and Product Quality of SVS-GBPS.

Summary

To ensure drivetrain products deliver consistent quality and reliability throughout their entire lifecycle, from manufacturing and commissioning to long-term operation. The role focuses on enforcing robust quality standards, addressing issues proactively, and driving continuous improvement so that customers experience dependable performance and minimal downtime.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure drivetrain quality across manufacturing, commissioning, and operational phases.
  • Define and maintain quality standards, processes and ITPs.
  • Manage and oversee supplier production, quality management, and contract manufacturing quality control and quality assurance.
  • Manage site inspection teams during commissioning and field operations.
  • Set commissioning protocols and monitor early-life performance.
  • Analyse field data, lead RCAs, CAPA with verification of effectiveness.
  • Handle customer communication and resolution in case of quality claims.
  • Drive continuous improvement for reliability and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, and service teams to embed quality in all processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position will have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in drivetrain systems or heavy machinery quality management.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes, commissioning practices, and operational reliability.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in quality management roles in manufacturing and/or supply chain operations.
  • Experience in Lean Six Sigma application in the manufacturing industry.
  • Strong leadership experience, preferably in the manufacturing industry, in operations and quality management, process improvement, and Lean Six Sigma implementation.
  • Skills and knowledge of relevant system applications and reporting and analysis tools, such as Office and PBI.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to build solid relationships with key players internally and externally.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, quality management, or related field.
  • 15 or more years of experience in supplier development or manufacturing.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Manufacturing Quality

  • First-pass yield (FPY) in production.
  • Supplier defect rate and contract manufacturing compliance.

Commissioning Quality

  • Percentage of installations completed without quality issues.
  • Inspection pass rate during commissioning.

Operational Reliability

  • Warranty claim rate per operating hour.
  • Customer satisfaction score related to product reliability.

Continuous Improvement

  • Reduction in recurring defects year-over-year.
  • Cost of quality (including rework and claims) as a percentage of revenue.

Customer Communication

  • Average response time to quality claims.
  • Claim resolution lead time.

Essential Physical Job Functions and Work Environment

Work environment for this role is a mix of office, manufacturing facilities and customer sites, both indoors and outdoors. Travel is both domestic and international and can be up to 75 percent at times. This role is based out of the Metso Vadodara office.
