Chief Project Engineer (Pyro)

 

Summary

We are looking for a highly experienced Chief Project Engineer to play a crucial role in supporting and expanding our aftermarket product portfolio within the SVS GBPS Pyro Project Engineering team. In this role, you will lead engineering efforts for project upgrades, modifications, and new product development while providing direct support during equipment breakdowns and repairs. You will be part of a global team of experienced engineers, collaborating closely with the Field Service Team, offering on-the-ground engineering expertise during critical situations to ensure efficient and effective maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.

 

Your role plays a crucial part in ensuring efficient maintenance and innovative solutions, which will contribute to expanding our aftermarket product portfolio and delivering exceptional customer value. In this position, you will report to the Engineering Manager.

 

Location: York, USA or Vadodara, India

Travel: Up to 20% (domestic & international)

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Engineering

  • Play a leading role in the engineering functions for projects including but not limited to; review equipment design and manufacturing specifications; performing design calculations; liaising with and supervising other technical staff, engineers, designers, draftspersons, and QA\QC contractors as assigned
  • Be fully responsible to complete all specifications and documentation required for the repair, refurbish and manufacture and/or procurement of equipment necessary for the successful execution of the assigned work
  • Work with Product Line to discover the most effective and efficient engineering solution to customer needs while focusing efforts to maximize returns for the organization
  • Take a leading role in the design of new innovative solutions, and the development/enhancement of existing products, while keeping in communication with the Product Line to ensure solution is aligned with strategy
  • Ensure technical competency of team in discipline and product, organizing training and documentation as required
  • Manage design review risk assessments or design for safety, to ensure highest quality design. Focus on global harmonization of product solutions for each engineering discipline and product group for the services business
  • Meeting required engineering due dates listed in all assigned Engineering SharePoint tickets

 Quality

  • Performing, as requested, the quality assurance function to ensure the manufacture and supply of equipment is carried out in accordance with relevant drawings, Inspection and Test Plans, Project Quality Plans and Specifications
  • Ensure that equipment to be manufactured or procured is fit and safe for its intended application and is held to the same standards globally.
  • Support supply chain development and ensuring future success in quality and manufacturing
  • Limit need for back drafting and drawing revisions prior to release of construction
  • Limit drawing revisions from manufacturing to installation stage

Project Coordination/Management

  • Ensure efficient and effective engineering plan for projects
  • Ensure that the assigned work is completed within the time and budget agreed with the Engineering Manager and assigned Project Manager
  • Manage design review stage gates to ensure all projects will be successful after the design phase and during manufacturing and installation stage
  • Interface with the Client as required
  • Demonstrate and lead by example

  • Communicate and escalate effectively to all levels of organization

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

- Education: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering

 

- Experience: Minimum of 15 years (and above) of experience in mechanical engineering, specifically within -manufacturing, Product Engineering & Development, equipment design, or similar fields within the mining industry. He / She should have executed many complex Pyro projects.

 

- Communication: Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in CAD software (such as AutoCAD and Inventor), with a deep understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes. Knowledge of machine design, including static and fatigue loaded structures, material selection, and power transmission.

Theoretical and practical background in Mechanical Engineering design principles and machine design (structural, machining, gearboxes, bolting, manufacturing, welding, casting, NDT methods, etc.).

 

Able to create/assist, review and approve GA, load, Detail & customer drawings etc., Perform mechanical and thermal load studies as and when needed, Create bought out specifications, Able to do mechanical sizing independently, Able to design supports, layout, routing & Able to do feasibility check for retrofitting competitors, Able to apply Metso tools & software to complete machine or functional parts of the system, Evaluate vendor drawings for different bought outs, Performs CAPA analysis, Expedites Exception Approvals, Perform / Assist mechanical & thermal analysis on equipment as required support structure such as base frames etc.,., Able to resolve forces or break components into free body diagrams for analysis, Able to do system design.

 

Create ITPs, Tools and software for designing the system, well versed in mechanical design principles, create manuals & installation instructions, Provide sustainable, energy efficient solutions.

 

- Breakdown Experience: Proven experience supporting equipment breakdowns, with the ability to rapidly diagnose issues and implement effective solutions under time constraints is a plus.

 

- Industry Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of the design, engineering, and operation of equipment such as Rotary kiln, Dryer, cooler, travelling grate kiln equipment and similar machinery are helpful.

 

- Global Experience: Experience working in a global environment, with a strong ability to navigate and collaborate across cultures and regions.

 

- Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to overcoming complex engineering challenges.

 

- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a proactive approach to continuous learning and development, collaborating with multiple teams across the globe in product and project developments. Travel (up to 20%) may be required as needed, including both domestically and internationally.
