Metso are looking for a highly experienced Chief Project Engineer to play a crucial role in supporting and expanding our aftermarket product portfolio within the SVS GBP Grinding Product Engineering team. 
 
What you'll do:

In this role, you will lead and contribute to engineering activities across a range of projects, including reviewing equipment design and manufacturing specifications, completing design calculations, and supporting the repair, refurbishment, manufacture and procurement of equipment. You will be accountable for ensuring all engineering documentation and specifications are completed to the required standard to support successful project execution.

 

You will work closely with the Product Line to develop efficient and innovative engineering solutions, contributing to the design of new products as well as the enhancement of existing offerings. This includes ensuring solutions are aligned with business strategy and globally harmonised across disciplines and product groups.

 

Quality and safety are central to this role. You will participate in design reviews, risk assessments and design-for-safety activities, and support quality assurance processes to ensure equipment is manufactured and supplied in accordance with drawings, inspection and test plans, and project specifications. You will also work with the supply chain to support consistent global quality and manufacturing outcomes.

 

From a coordination and leadership perspective, you will ensure assigned work is delivered on time and within agreed budgets, manage design stage gates, and support projects through manufacturing and installation. You will liaise with clients as required and provide supervision, guidance and mentoring to technical staff, including engineers, designers, draftspersons and the Engineering Service Desk.

 
What you'll bring:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in mechanical engineering, specifically within manufacturing, production equipment design, or similar fields with equipment in the mining industry.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Spanish is a plus.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (such as AutoCAD and Inventor), with a deep understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of machine design, including static and fatigue loaded structures, material selection, and power transmission.
  • Theoretical and practical background in Mechanical Engineering design principles and machine design (structural, machining, gearboxes, bolting, manufacturing, welding, casting, NDT methods, etc).
  • Proven experience supporting equipment breakdowns, with the ability to rapidly diagnose issues and implement effective solutions under time constraints is a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of the design, engineering, and operation of equipment such as grinding mills, SAG mills, Ball mills, Rod mills, feed chutes, lubrication systems, and similar machinery are required.
  • Experience working in a global environment, with a strong ability to navigate and collaborate across cultures and regions.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to overcoming complex engineering challenges.
  •  Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a proactive approach to continuous learning and development, collaborating with multiple teams across the globe in product and project developments.
  • Travel (up to 20%) may be required as needed, including both domestically and internationally.
