Introduction
We are seeking a Workshop Superintendent to join our Repair Center team. You will be responsible for overall daily workshop operations ensuring safety, quality, efficiency and profitability. Your role plays a crucial parts in include management of the workshop personnel consist of leading hands, mechanic fitters/machinists, boilermakers/welders and QAQC inspectors, guiding and growing the subordinates, resources allocation and working closely with the Repairs stakeholders. In this position, you will report to the Service Center Manager. This role will be based in Surabaya, Indonesia.
What You'll Do
- Enforce safety standards and ensure all team members comply with Metso Modus Operandi, Metso Life-Saving Rules and standard procedures
- Manage all repair and fabrication activities for offsite repairs and new build fabrication of crushers, screens, filters, grinding mills, pumps and other various fixed plant equipment/components
- Supervise daily activities in the workshop to ensure safety, efficiency and productivity
- Monitor projects, ensuring adherence to OEM quality standards and profit objectives are being met
- Track job progress, labor hours, and parts usage using RMS (Repairs Management System)
- Communicate repair progress, delays, and findings to stakeholders clearly and promptly
- Provide hands-on support and technical guidance to workshop crews
- Mentor Leading Hands and develop both their technical and leadership skills
- Allocate manpower and resources effectively across multiple projects
- Manage the workshop schedule and maximise efficiency within the team to reduce overheads and support profitability
- Maintain manning levels for fluctuating schedules
- Ensure 90% of workshop crew workable hours available are chargeable to either service or production orders
- Lead investigation of customer complaints regarding quality, tolerances, specifications and delivered condition of services and/or products
- Record, analyse, inform and coach concerned personnel of quality assurance issues
- Conduct regular toolbox talks, performance evaluations, and skills assessments
- Identify competency gaps in the Repairs Workshop team and implement training as required
- Perform technical evaluations of the team and develop a minimum standard to be incorporated into the training matrix
- Oversee usage and maintenance of workshop equipment such as overhead cranes, lathe, milling machine, welding machines, and painting chamber
- Identify root causes of recurring equipment failures and propose long-term solutions
- Ensure the Workshop are well presented, and 5S is maintained and continously improved
- Lead continuous improvement projects focused on reducing rework, downtime, and costs
- Stay updated on best practices, new tools, and technologies in heavy industrial maintenance
Who You Are
- Diploma/Bachelor degree in Engineering or mechanical trade qualification with 8+ years experience in mining or manufacturing industry equipment repair
- 5-8 years in a supervisory or managerial role
- OEM maintenance/service operations experience
- QAQC experience
- Understanding of mining equipment including crusher, screen, pump, filter, hydraulics is desirable
- Have Lean 5S certification is desirable
- Demonstrated supervision and leadership skills in workshop enviroment
- Observes safety regulation and exhibits a high concern for safety
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety procedures, operating and maintenance instructions and OEM technical manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in high pressure situations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to lead and motivate others
- MS Office suite intermediate experience/skills
