Introduction

 

We are looking for a Field Service Automation Technician to join our Field Services Beneficiation Team. In this role, you will install, commission, start up, optimize, troubleshoot, maintain, and support Metso's advanced analyzer and automation systems at customer sites across the mining and industrial sectors. Your work will directly contribute to customer productivity, equipment performance, operational reliability, and long-term asset optimization.

 

You will report to the Manager, Field Service - Beneficiation Canada.

 

This role is based in Canada, with flexible work arrangements determined by business and customer requirements. Applicants residing outside of Canada must be willing and able to relocate.

 

This role includes significant travel to customer sites across Canada and occasional international travel. Travel frequency may range from one to five customer visits per month, with assignments lasting from several days to multiple weeks.

You will join a team of highly skilled field service and automation professionals focused on supporting Metso's installed base of analyzer, instrumentation, and process control systems within the mining and mineral processing industries.

We collaborate closely with customers, product line specialists, engineering teams, service coordinators, sales teams, and global technical experts. What you'll do

 

  • Install, commission, start up, optimize, troubleshoot, and maintain Metso analyzer systems, including Particle Size Instruments (PSI) and Online Stream Analyzer (OSA/Courier) systems.
  • Support associated sampling, sample preparation, vacuum, instrumentation, communications, and control systems throughout their lifecycle.
  • Travel to customer sites to perform planned maintenance, inspections, upgrades, commissioning activities, and emergency troubleshooting.
  • Conduct technical evaluations and root cause investigations to identify and resolve equipment and process issues.
  • Support integration and troubleshooting activities involving customer PLC, DCS, networking, and industrial communication systems.
  • Deliver customer training and technical support to improve equipment utilization and operational performance.
  • Complete service documentation, activity reports, timesheets, and installed base updates using Metso digital platforms.
  • Identify opportunities to improve customer performance through OEM spare parts, upgrades, service agreements, digital solutions, and other Metso services.

 

 

What you'll bring

 

  • Diploma, certification, trade qualification, or equivalent experience in Automation Engineering Technology, Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum five years of experience in industrial automation, instrumentation, process control, mining, mineral processing, or other heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving electrical systems, instrumentation, communications networks, software, and industrial automation technologies.
  • Experience interpreting technical drawings, wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and engineering documentation.
  • Strong customer service mindset with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and perform effectively in demanding field environments.
  • Valid driver's license, valid passport, and willingness to travel extensively.
  • Bilingual English and French (nice to have).
  • Experience with Metso equipment, analyzer systems, commissioning, startup, and optimization activities (nice to have).
  • Experience with Linux systems, industrial networking, cybersecurity principles, PLCs, DCS platforms, and industrial communications protocols (nice to have).

This role includes physical work requirements related to working in mining, industrial, processing plant, and heavy industrial environments. For positions that may be performed in Ontario, the expected salary range is $90,000.00 – $100,000.00 CAD per year. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on skills, experience, and role-related qualifications. Compensation for roles performed outside Ontario will be determined in accordance with applicable local laws and market conditions.
