Introduction
We are seeking a Senior Project Designer to join our SVS GBPS Project Engineering team, with a focus on Bulk Material Handling (BMH) equipment. In this role, you will play a key part in the development of engineering deliverables for customer projects, including upgrades, modifications, retrofits, and new layouts, supporting both aftermarket and project execution activities.
This position focuses on 3D/2D design execution, modeling, detailing, drafting standards, component integration, and collaboration with mechanical engineers across multiple global locations. Experience with heavy equipment, fabrication drawings, assemblies, and site-fit constraints will be considered a strong advantage.
This position reports to the South America Manager, GBPS Project Engineering, and is based on-site in Sorocaba, Brazil (100% on-site role). After a minimum of six months in the role, based on performance, a remote work arrangement of one day per week may be considered.

You will collaborate with internal groups such as Project Management, Proposal, Strategic Sourcing, Field Service, and global Product Engineering teams.
What You’ll Do
• Develop 3D models, 2D detail drawings, assembly drawings, and fabrication packages for BMH equipment according to project requirements and design standards.
• Interpret engineering inputs, sketches, technical specifications, and site information to produce high-quality drawings and models.
• Create and update Bills of Materials (BOMs), working closely with engineers to ensure accuracy and alignment with project scope.
• Support the design of upgrades, modifications, retrofit packages, and layout adjustments across new and legacy equipment.
• Incorporate field constraints and site conditions into design solutions, ensuring constructability, maintainability, and installation feasibility.
• Collaborate with engineers during reviews, ensuring that designs comply with calculations, safety standards, and mechanical engineering constraints.
• Participate in design reviews, ensuring adherence to internal drafting standards, tolerances, and quality requirements.
• Provide design support to the Field Service Team during installations, troubleshooting, and equipment breakdown evaluations.
• Ensure all design documentation follows Metso’s quality procedures, design guidelines, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of design methods, drawing templates, modeling practices, and global standardization efforts.
Who You Are
• Bachelor’s degree or technical degree in Mechanical Design, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
• Preferably 10+ years of experience in mechanical design of heavy machinery, mining equipment, or BMH systems.
• Advanced proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Inventor, and Vault, including parametric modeling and complex assemblies.
• Strong understanding of mechanical components, fabrication methods, machining, welding, tolerances, GD&T, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience interpreting engineering calculations, applying them effectively to modeling and detailing activities.
• Ability to support troubleshooting and design resolution during equipment breakdowns or urgent engineering demands.
• Familiarity with the BMH equipment listed in the “Team You Belong To” section.
• Experience working in global, multicultural teams with cross-regional collaboration.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and technical discipline.
• Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
