Introduction

We are seeking a Jr Project Designer to join our Grinding Product Engineering team within SVS GBPS team. You will be responsible for developing and managing detailed design solutions for horizontal grinding mills and their associated components.
This role ensures the technical integrity, standardization, and quality of design deliverables, supporting global teams and providing mentorship to less experienced designers and engineers. Your role plays a crucial part to contribute to our business.

This position is mainly located in Sorocaba/SP.

You will join a team of Service Engineering dedicated to Grinding Horizontal Mills. We work closely with multiple stakeholders, and our team culture is all about getting things done – together.

You will participate on engineering tasks within a multicultural and multi-regional global working environment, ensuring fluent collaboration across different teams. The members of our team are located in different Metso Technology centers around the globe.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and review complex 3D and 2D designs for mill components and systems (e.g., trunnion liners, retaining rings, end covers, feed chutes, lubrication systems, etc.), ensuring functional and manufacturing compliance – bigger focus on Hydraulics component
  • Ensure adherence to applicable national and international design standards (ASME, ISO, DIN, etc.) and Metso internal design guidelines
  • Review and approve design work produced by other designers, maintaining quality and consistency across deliverables
  • Perform interference checks, basic structural evaluations, and design improvement proposals
  • Prepare and validate Bills of Material (BOM) and support documentation for fabrication and assembly
  • Collaborate closely with global engineering teams (U.S., India, Finland, Australia, Chile, Canada, and Brazil) to maintain alignment and share best practices
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design methodologies, standards, and CAD/PLM tools
  • Provide technical support to Project Management, Procurement, Field Service, and Technical Support teams

 

Who you are

  • Bachelor’s degree in Project Technology, Mechanical Engineering or similar
  • Experience in mechanical design, preferably with heavy industrial equipment (mining, steel, pulp & paper, or similar sectors)
  • Proven experience in design detailing, drawing revision, and documentation standardization
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in global, cross-functional environments
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD (3D modeling and 2D detailing)
  • Familiarity with SAP, Teamcenter, or equivalent PLM/PDM systems
  • Strong understanding of welding symbols, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Good understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulics
  • Experience preparing and managing Bills of Material (BOM)
  • knowledge of machine design principles (e.g., loaded structures, material selection, power transmission systems, etc.)
  • Familiarity with machining, gearboxes, bolting, welding, casting, and NDT methods
  • Knowledgeable on relevant international codes and standards
  • Excellent communication skills in English (written and verbal), with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Spanish proficiency is a plus
