We are looking for a Project Engineer to play a crucial role in supporting and expanding our aftermarket product portfolio within the SVS GBP Grinding Product Engineering team. In this role, you will lead engineering efforts for upgrades, modifications, and new product development while providing direct support during equipment breakdowns and repairs. You will be part of a global team of experienced engineers, collaborating closely with the Field Service Team, offering on-the-ground engineering expertise during critical situations to ensure efficient and effective maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Engineering: Lead the engineering and development of structural and mechanical systems and components for Stirred Mills and HPGR equipment, ensuring compliance with rigorous performance, safety, and quality standards. Lead multiple engineering projects from initial concept through execution, ensuring timely completion within budget. Prepare mechanical and structural 3D models and drawings, specifications, and procedures to facilitate fabrication, construction, and assembly for SM/HPGR equipment or services to refurbish, upgrade, or retrofit. Perform calculations to ensure safe function of equipment for refurbishment, upgrade, or retrofit.
- Aftermarket Support: Partner with the global GBP Engineering team to engineer and implement upgrades, modifications, and repairs that enhance the performance and extend the lifespan of existing equipment in Engineer-to-Order (ETO) projects.
- Field Service Engineering: Work in close collaboration with the Field Service Team to provide expert engineering support during equipment breakdowns, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal performance through swift and effective engineering solutions.
- Global Collaboration: Engage with a diverse, international team of engineers, contributing to global projects and ensuring consistent engineering excellence across regions.
- Technical Expertise: Provide advanced technical guidance to internal teams and customers, solving complex engineering challenges and delivering innovative solutions in real-time during critical operations.
- Documentation & Compliance: Ensure all engineering documentation is accurate, comprehensive, and compliant with industry standards and regulations.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the ongoing improvement of engineering processes, methodologies, and best practices within the team. Perform other miscellaneous duties as requested.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in mechanical engineering, specifically within manufacturing, production equipment design, or similar fields with equipment in the mining industry. Some experience in grinding equipment (stirred mills, or high-pressure grinding mills) a significant plus.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Spanish is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in CAD software (such as AutoCAD and Inventor), with a deep understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes. Knowledge of machine design, including static and fatigue loaded structures, material selection, and power transmission.
Theoretical and practical background in Mechanical Engineering design principles and machine design (structural, machining, gearboxes, bolting, manufacturing, welding, casting, NDT methods, etc).
- Breakdown Experience: Proven experience supporting equipment breakdowns, with the ability to rapidly diagnose issues and implement effective solutions under time constraints is a plus.
- Industry Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of the design, engineering, and operation of equipment such as Stirred Mills, HPGR, Grinding Mills, and similar machinery are helpful.
- Global Experience: Experience working in a global environment, with a strong ability to navigate and collaborate across cultures and regions.
- Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to overcoming complex engineering challenges.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a proactive approach to continuous learning and development, collaborating with multiple teams across the globe in product and project developments. Travel (up to 20%) may be required as needed, including both domestically and internationally.
