Introduction

We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer to join our SVS GBPS Project Engineering team, with a dedicated focus on Grinding equipment for the South America region (SAM). In this role, you will lead the development of engineering solutions for customer projects, equipment upgrades, modifications, retrofits, and complex problem-solving across our installed base of Grinding Mills and associated systems.

This position is centered on project execution and aftermarket engineering—including technical delivery, mechanical and structural assessments, component selection, breakdown support, and close collaboration with global engineering teams.

Hands-on experience with equipment assembly, field troubleshooting, shutdown support, repairs, or commissioning will be considered a strong advantage.

This position reports to the South America Manager, GBPS Project Engineering and is based on-site in Sorocaba, Brazil (100% on-site role). Approximately 20% travel is required annually.
After a minimum of six months in the role, and depending on performance and team needs, a remote work arrangement of one day per week may be considered.

Team, You Belong To

You will work in a global and collaborative engineering environment, interacting daily with mechanical engineers, structural engineers, designers, project chiefs, and field specialists across multiple regions.

Our mission is to deliver reliable, safe, and cost-efficient engineering solutions for Grinding equipment, including but not limited to: SAG Mills, Ball Mills, Rod Mills, etc.

Grinding Mill components such as shells, heads, trunnions, bearings, girth gears, pinions, lubrication systems, and drive systems

Our scope includes engineering support for maintenance, upgrades, refurbishments, retrofits, and critical breakdown situations.

We collaborate closely with internal teams such as Project Management, Proposal, Strategic Sourcing, Field Service, and global Grinding Product Engineering teams. The team culture emphasizes collaboration, versatility, problem-solving, technical rigor, and continuous learning, leveraging expertise from multiple global locations.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the mechanical engineering scope for Grinding equipment projects, covering upgrades, refurbishments, modifications, and retrofit solutions.
• Prepare and review 3D models, 2D detail drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, technical specifications, inspection requirements, and technical instructions in collaboration with designers and other stakeholders.
• Perform or validate mechanical and basic structural calculations related to Grinding equipment (e.g., stresses, wear components, bearings, bolted joints, power transmission elements, rotating components).
• Support component selection for drive systems, gearboxes, couplings, bearings, lubrication systems, and related elements.
• Provide engineering expertise during equipment breakdowns, shutdown activities, and maintenance events to minimize downtime and restore operational performance.
• Participate in field assessments and incorporate site-specific constraints into technical solutions.
• Collaborate with global Grinding engineering teams to standardize practices, share lessons learned, and ensure technical consistency across regions.
• Partner with Field Service to diagnose issues, evaluate equipment condition, and define suitable repair or upgrade strategies.
• Support Engineer-to-Order (ETO) aftermarket projects involving refurbishment, capacity increase, or reliability improvement.
• Ensure all engineering documentation adheres to internal processes, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance engineering tools, methodologies, and technical excellence.

Who You Are

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

• Preferably 10+ years of experience in mechanical or project engineering within heavy machinery, mining equipment, or Grinding systems.

• Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault) and strong capability in mechanical systems design.
• Solid understanding of machine design principles, structural behavior, material selection, manufacturing processes, and power transmission systems.

• Proven experience diagnosing and resolving equipment issues under time-sensitive conditions.
• Familiarity with Grinding equipment and components described in the “Team You Belong To” section.

• Experience working in global, multicultural engineering environments with cross-regional collaboration.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on mindset.

• Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal (Spanish is a plus).

• Ability to travel as needed for field assessments, shutdowns, and project support.

What’s in It for You

Engaging Technical Challenges:

You will work with complex and high-impact engineering problems—from addressing breakdown situations to evaluating legacy equipment, implementing upgrades, and supporting major shutdowns across the region.
