Introduction

 

We are seeking a Mid-level Mechanical Engineer to join our SVS GBPS team (Grinding, Bulk, Pyro and Smelting), with a primary focus on Bulk Material Handling. In this role, you will support and contribute to the development of engineering solutions for customer projects, equipment upgrades, modifications, retrofits, and technical problem-solving across our installed base.

 

This position focuses on project execution, technical delivery, component selection, engineering efforts for upgrades, modifications, and new product development while providing direct support during equipment breakdowns and repairs of bulk material handling equipment.

 

This position reports to the South America Manager, GBPS Project Engineering and is based on-site in Sorocaba, Brazil (100% presencial / on-site role). Approximately 10% travel is required annually. After a minimum one year in the role, and based on performance and alignment with team needs, a remote work arrangement of one day per week may be considered.

What You’ll Do

 

  • Develop 3D models, 2D detail drawings, assembly drawings, and fabrication packages for BMH equipment in accordance with project requirements and design standards.
  • Interpret engineering inputs, sketches, technical specifications, and site data to produce accurate and high-quality drawings and models.
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), ensuring alignment with engineering scope and project requirements.
  • Support the design of upgrades, modifications, retrofit packages, and layout adjustments for new and existing equipment.
  • Incorporate field conditions and site constraints into design solutions, ensuring constructability, maintainability, and installation feasibility.
  • Participate in design reviews, ensuring compliance with internal drafting standards, tolerances, and quality requirements.
  • Collaborate with Field Service and engineering teams to support equipment troubleshooting, maintenance activities, and improvement initiatives.
  • Support aftermarket engineering activities, including upgrades, repairs, and refurbishment projects for existing equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with global engineering teams, contributing to project execution and knowledge sharing across regions.
  • Ensure all design documentation complies with company procedures, design guidelines, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design methods, tools, templates, and standardization practices.

 

 

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 4~6 years of experience in mechanical design of industrial equipment. Experience in bulk material handling equipment within the mining industry is preferred. Previous experience in a leadership role is considered a plus.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault, etc.), with a deep understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes. Knowledge of machine design, including static and fatigue loaded structures, material selection, and power transmission. Theoretical and practical background in Mechanical Engineering design principles and machine design (structural, machining, gearboxes, bolting, manufacturing, welding, casting, NDT methods, etc).
  • Breakdown Experience: Experience supporting equipment breakdowns is considered a plus, with the ability to rapidly diagnose issues and implement effective solutions under time constraints is a plus.
  • Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of the design, engineering, and operation of equipment such as Apron Feeders, Belt Feeders, Rotary Car Dumpers, Conveyor Belts, BucketWheel Stacker Reclaimers, and similar machinery.
  • Global Experience: Experience working in a global environment, with the ability to collaborate across cultures and regions, is considered a plus.
  • Problem-Solving: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to overcoming complex engineering challenges.
  • Good communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact in a technical environment.
