Introduction

We are seeking a Chief Mechanical Engineer to lead our Bulk Material Handling (BMH) Product Engineering activities within the South America (SAM) region. This senior technical leadership role establishes engineering governance, ensures product standards, supports aftermarket solutions, and drives continuous improvement across new projects, upgrades, refurbishments, and legacy systems.

As the regional technical authority for BMH mechanical systems, you will define engineering strategy, promote global alignment, uphold technical consistency, and mentor engineers and designers across the organization. This role plays a pivotal part in elevating engineering excellence across SAM while collaborating closely with global Product Engineering teams.

This position is based on-site in Sorocaba/SP / Nova Lima/MG (100% on-site role). After a minimum of six months in the role, and depending on performance and team needs, a remote work arrangement of one day per week may be considered.

 

Team You Belong To

You will join a global, multidisciplinary engineering network, collaborating with product specialists, structural engineers, designers, project engineers, field service personnel, proposal teams, and sourcing professionals across multiple regions.

You will support and guide engineering solutions for a wide portfolio of BMH equipment, including but not limited to: Rotary Car Dumpers, Positioners and Mover Cars, Stackers and Reclaimers, Apron Feeders and Belt Feeders, Dribble Belt Conveyors, Conveyor Systems, Bucketwheel Reclaimers, Other legacy and modernized BMH systems

What You’ll Do

Strategic & Technical Leadership

• Define and execute the regional engineering strategy for BMH Product Engineering, ensuring alignment with global standards and business objectives.
• Serve as the senior technical authority for BMH mechanical systems, guiding high-impact technical decisions.
• Promote engineering governance, standardization, and technical consistency worldwide.

Engineering Oversight

• Oversee design, analysis, validation, and technical approval activities for new designs, upgrades, and retrofit solutions.
• Ensure high-quality, cost-efficient, and compliant engineering deliverables for customer projects.
• Coordinate advanced engineering calculations, component evaluations, and technical assessments supporting reliability and performance.

Aftermarket & Field Support

• Lead technical evaluation for refurbishment, life-extension, and modernization of legacy equipment.
• Provide high-level engineering support to Field Service during breakdowns, shutdowns, and critical site interventions.
• Convert field findings into improved engineering standards, documentation, and product enhancements.

Global Collaboration

• Work in close alignment with global BMH Product Engineering teams, fostering consistency, knowledge exchange, and best-practice adoption.
• Contribute to global initiatives, cross-regional projects, and product development programs.

People & Capability Development

• Mentor, coach, and develop engineers, designers, and future technical leaders.
• Promote a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and technical excellence.

Documentation, Compliance & Quality

• Ensure that engineering documentation aligns with internal processes, industry regulations, and certification requirements.
• Develop, refine, and enforce engineering guidelines, standards, procedures, and technical references.

 

Who You Are

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Postgraduate degree or specialization in mechanical systems, structural analysis, or product development is a plus.

Experience

15+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably within BMH equipment or heavy industrial machinery.
• Demonstrated leadership experience in engineering governance, product engineering, or multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong background in design, analysis, manufacturing processes, and power transmission systems.
• Proven ability to support and resolve equipment breakdowns and critical field events under tight deadlines.
• Experience working in global, multicultural organizations.

Skills & Technical Competencies

• Expertise in CAD tools (AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault) and engineering data management systems.
• Deep understanding of machine design, structural behavior, materials, bolted joints, gear systems, drives, weld processes, casting, and machining.
• Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities.
• Excellent communication skills in English (Spanish is a plus).
• Ability to travel as needed to support global collaboration or field activities.
