Reports To: Head of Product & Technical Sales Support, Smelting Aftermarket
Employment Type: Full-time, permanent

Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated Technical Specialist to join Metso’s Smelting team in China. This role is critical in supporting customers across major smelting projects, including commissioning, start-ups, troubleshooting, maintenance planning, and technical advisory services for key equipment. The successful candidate will work closely with local and global teams to ensure safe, high-quality delivery of aftermarket support and solution implementation.

This position will replace a retiring senior expert and includes a structured knowledge-transfer and onboarding period to ensure continuity of expertise within the region.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide on-site technical support for smelting furnace equipment, including inspections, troubleshooting, maintenance recommendations, and operational guidance.

• Support commissioning and plant start-up activities for new installations and major shutdowns.

• Serve as a technical advisor to customers, ensuring timely resolution of issues and high customer satisfaction.

• Collaborate with global Technical Sales Support (TSS) to prepare scopes, documentation, and support for spare parts, upgrades, and service solutions.

• Participate in performance reviews, root-cause analyses, and technical investigations.

• Maintain accurate service documentation, reports, and feedback to support continuous improvement.

• Contribute to internal training, knowledge transfer, and capability building within the market area.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Technical degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field.

• 5+ years of experience in smelting, furnace operations, heavy industrial equipment, or site service environments.

• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.

• Experience with commissioning, field service work, or plant maintenance is preferred.

• Ability to work independently in demanding site environments, including extended customer travel.

• Effective communication skills in Mandarin and English.

• Strong safety mindset; ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
