Introduction
We are looking for a Field Service Technician to join our Field Services team. In this role, you will provide hands-on field repairs, welding services, equipment installation support, and technical expertise for Metso customers across the mining industry. You will play a critical role in ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of mining equipment while helping customers maximize productivity and equipment performance. You will report to the Field Service Managers.
This role is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA.
This position requires approximately 85% travel to customer mine sites and Metso locations for customer support, maintenance activities, equipment installations, upgrades, and training.

You will join a team of highly skilled field service and technical professionals focused on supporting mining customers throughout the lifecycle of their equipment. Our team plays a key role in helping customers improve equipment reliability, optimize performance, and reduce downtime through expert technical support and field services.
We collaborate closely with customers, sales teams, engineering, project management, and technical support functions across Metso. Our team operates across multiple customer sites and regions, with a strong emphasis on safety, teamwork, technical excellence, accountability, and delivering exceptional customer service.
What you'll do
- Perform installation, maintenance, repair, commissioning, and upgrade activities on mining and mineral processing equipment.
- Provide technical and practical support during equipment demolition, installation, startup, and commissioning activities.
- Execute millwright work, including alignment of gears, mill components, and complete mill change-outs.
- Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and repair activities in mining and heavy industrial environments.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and equipment-related issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Conduct precision measurements and alignments using specialized tools and equipment.
- Maintain accurate service documentation, daily reports, and customer communications regarding project progress and site activities.
- Collaborate with customers, contractors, sales teams, and internal technical experts to ensure successful service outcomes and identify future service opportunities.
What you'll bring
- Technical degree or high school diploma with relevant mechanical maintenance, millwright, or welding experience.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in millwright, mechanical maintenance, welding, mining, or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong working knowledge of mining process equipment such as crushers, conveyors, pumps, screens, and mills.
- Experience reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Ability to work independently, solve problems, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively with customers and team members.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to meet DOT physical requirements.
- Welding certifications and previous field welding experience on mining equipment are highly desirable.
- Previous MSHA training and experience operating mobile equipment are considered assets.
