Introduction

 

We are seeking a Service Centre Welder to join our Repairs & Service Operations team. The Shop Welder is responsible for the repair, fabrication, and manufacturing of mining and process equipment—including mills, crushers, screens, shredders, conveyors, and pumps—within the Service Center. This role performs advanced welding using inner shield, outer shield, sub arc, and stick electrode processes, ensuring all work meets required specifications, safety standards, and quality expectations.

 

Working closely with the Shop Supervisor, Service Center team, and other technicians, the Shop Welder ensures safe and efficient execution of welding and fabrication activities. The position supports the broader repairs business through accurate workmanship, proper equipment operation, and adherence to established procedures.

 

This position is based in Prince George, BC, Canada, with little to no travel required (up to 5% as needed).

 

In this position, you will report to the Service Centre Supervisor.

You will join a team of repair and service professionals dedicated to ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production operations. We are currently working on repair execution projects, capacity planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.

 

We work closely with internal and external stakeholders, such as planning and estimation teams, quality managers, workshops, and vendors. Our team culture is all about safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The members in our team are located in various regions across North America.

 

What you’ll do

 

Welding & Fabrication

  • Lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications.
  • Set up and operate welding equipment including SMAW (Stick), GMAW (Mig), SAW (Sub arc), semi automated systems, and oxy fuel gas equipment in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Perform cutting and excavation using Air Carbon Arc, oxy fuel, plasma, and track burners.
  • Set up, center, and secure workpieces on rotary tilt positioners.
  • Operate semi automatic and automatic welding equipment to perform weld buildup, select electrodes, and adjust currents and time cycles.
  • Weld metal parts in flat, vertical, and overhead positions.
  • Check and adjust welding parameters to achieve required weld quality.
  • Cut workpieces using fabrication equipment including saws, shears, brakes, and rolls.
  • Remove rough spots using grinders, files, and scrapers.
  • Heat, form, and dress metal parts using torches and welding equipment.

Equipment Operation & Material Handling

  • Safely operate overhead cranes and forklifts to handle components up to 65 tons.
  • Perform routine maintenance on welding and fabrication equipment.
  • Follow all required inspection, documentation, and reporting processes.

Work Execution & Compliance

  • Receive priorities, instructions, and work assignments from the Shop Supervisor.
  • Maintain adherence to safety regulations, plant rules, and general quality standards.
  • Work occasional overtime including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on workload.
  • Perform other related tasks as directed.

 

Who you are

  • Red Seal Welding Certification.
  • Ability to pass weld tests meeting required specifications and standards; 2G, 3G, and 4G certifications preferred.
  • Minimum 3+ years of welding experience.
  • 5+ years of related repair or fabrication experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand requisitions, drawings, and engineering specifications.
  • Strong comprehension of safety regulations and safe work practices.
  • Intermediate math skills (fractions, decimals, geometry) for measurement and problem solving.
  • Ability to read shop drawings and welding details, and set up equipment to produce work within required tolerances.
  • Knowledge of machines, tools, their operation, repair, and maintenance.
  • Understanding of design techniques and principles related to technical plans, blueprints, and models.

For positions that may be performed in Ontario, the expected salary range is $50,000.00 – $60,000.00 CAD per year. Actual compensation within this range will be determined based on skills, experience, and role-related qualifications. Compensation for roles performed outside Ontario will be determined in accordance with applicable local laws and market conditions.
