About the Role

 

We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Crushing Business Line Project Delivery Engineering Team in Australia with focus on complex systems, basically Crushing Plants, including stations and belt conveyors. The primary purpose of this position is to support local projects in Australia, including technical support in sales phase, leadership of project execution, verification of adherence to local standards and field technical support during erection and commissioning. Depending on the workload and strategy, this position can work in global projects too.

 

This position reports to the Engineering Manager will be based in Brazil, requiring both domestic and international travel according to business needs.

You will join a Complex Projects Engineering Team dedicated to developing solutions and new projects for the mining industry, designing and applying a wide range of crushing plants and belt conveyors around the world, working closely with internal and external teams, including project management, planning, procurement, logistics, site construction supervision, and customers.

What You'll Do

 

  • Lead projects for crushing plants and conveyor belt systems for the mining industry.
  • Design crushing plants, including layouts for silos, hoppers, transfer towers, and the arrangement of crushers, screens, feeders, and other equipment based on design criteria, standards, and ore characteristics such as particle size distribution, density, abrasiveness, and angle of repose.
  • Develop projects with special attention to assembly, construction, and maintenance aspects, including access, procedures, and special tools.
  • Evaluate supplier quotations, including technical and commercial clarification meetings.
  • Perform mechanical calculations to define components and mechanical items and generate technical specifications for procurement purposes.
  • Conduct technical bid evaluations for purchased components and subsystems.
  • Apply engineering knowledge, principles, and best practices to meet customer requirements and specifications.
  • Prepare equipment, component, and structural drawings for fabrication and assembly.
  • Prepare assembly, operation, and maintenance manuals and procedures to ensure proper operation and replacement of components.
  • Demonstrate commitment to meeting internal and external customer expectations.
  • Verify and take responsibility for the accuracy of work and achievement of objectives while ensuring activities are completed within established deadlines.
  • Apply safety, ergonomics, and well-being criteria in projects, including compliance with Brazilian regulations (particularly NRs) and OSHA standards.
  • Define basic structural components and interface with the structural engineering department to determine the best technical and economic solutions during the early project phases.
  • Develop basic and detailed engineering packages.
  • Develop 3D engineering models using AutoCAD 3D, Inventor 3D and Tekla.
  • Coordinate designers and engineers, ensuring technical alignment through collaborative tools.
  • Participate in meetings with customers, suppliers, and other Metso units to clarify technical issues and support project development.
  • Collaborate with Commercial, Engineering, Procurement, QA/QC, Planning, Contracts, Logistics, and Field Services departments.
  • Demonstrate, comply with, and promote all company HSE and Quality policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Travel for training, customer and supplier interactions, field surveys, installation supervision, commissioning, and equipment delivery activities.

 

Who You Are

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven professional experience with mining industry equipment.
  • Experience in the development projects of crushing plants and material handling equipment,
  • Strong skills in plant design and layout development.
  • Knowledge and experience applying safety, ergonomics, and well-being principles in engineering projects.
  • Previous experience and general knowledge of mining equipment such as crushers, screens, conveyors, and belt feeders are desirable.
  • Knowledge of component sizing and selection, mechanical calculations, and analytical calculations.
  • General knowledge of CEMA standards.
  • Familiarity with ISO procedures, instructions, and standards, promoting quality in products and services.
  • Basic structural design knowledge and familiarity with AISC standards and their application to mining structures.
  • Ability to develop preliminary and conceptual designs for proposal development.
  • Ability to develop basic engineering packages for detailed design.
  • Experience developing 3D engineering models using AutoCAD 3D, Inventor 3D, and Tekla.
  • Knowledge of Navisworks, Plant Design, and PDMS will be considered an advantage.
  • Experience with DEM simulations and interpretation of results is considered a plus.
  • Experience with iron ore, copper, bauxite, and gold processing projects is desirable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, and SAP.
  • Availability for domestic and international travel, including short-notice assignments and extended stays.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the mining industry, primarily focused on material handling equipment.
