Introduction to the Role
The Senior Electrical Engineer position will be part of the Engineering team and provide engineering and technical support to the Metso Services group for the GBP - Grinding, Bulk, Pyro, SM-HPGR business unit.
The position is responsible for the engineering and engineering support of the entire line of GBP equipment.
The Senior Electrical Engineer reviews specifications and develops overall electrical design including wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, process & instrumentation diagrams, and component specifications for customer orders.
Activities also include PLC logic and programming support / co-ordination with Controls Engineer, motor controls, control panel design, field commissioning and troubleshooting, vendor testing, customer visits, Proposal and Sales support, equipment evaluation and selection, and support for cost estimation on new project proposals.
The successful incumbent will have the ability to work in a fast- paced environment, prioritize work on several projects simultaneously and present a positive, cooperative demeanour with customers and co-workers.
The Role Responsibilities
- Ability to conceptualize, design, develop, test, and productize electrical systems in an industrial environment.
- Develop new electrical panels, automation, and control system.
- Prepare formal engineering designs and specifications for equipment or services to upgrade, refurbish or retrofit equipment.
- Prepare detailed specifications for the purchase of electrical equipment.
- Prepare project documents including single lines, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, process & instrumentation diagrams, bill of materials etc.
- Review customer specifications and identify deviations and exceptions as required.
- Understand customer requirements and communicate requirements to stake holders.
- Produce technically sound designs that meet the product requirements and address the end users use case needs.
- Ensure final design meets accepted specifications.
- Organize their own activity and partners activities for the delivery of internal and external projects.
- Evaluate components and vendor partners for process control equipment and services.
- Communicate effectively with the product development team to understand machine requirements.
- Maintains awareness of current state-of-the-art technologies and trends in electrical engineering and automation and implement product improvement ideas to maintain a cost and technically competitive standard offerings.
- Troubleshoot electrical power and control systems.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external customers, reacting quickly to issues.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
Essential qualifications and experience:
- Bachelor of Engineering or technology in Electrical / Electronics / Electronics and telecommunication / Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent with a minimum experience of 7+ years.
- Design and engineering experience in engineering equipment for the Mining, Mineral process or similar to bulk material handling.
- Experience on VVVF Drive, motor sizing, cable sizing, equipment electrical layout, cable schedule preparation is mandatory
- Strong experience using 2D and 3D design software.
- Experience using electrical engineering software
- Working knowledge of SAP is desirable, Microsoft Office Products
- Capability to make decisions independently while working as part of a team.
- Capability to work in structured manner even under pressure.
- Experience with configuring and troubleshooting industrial controls systems and industrial instrumentation.
- Experience in designing process automation for OEM equipment is a plus.
- Experience with commissioning automated equipment or systems is a plus.
- Experience with Low Voltage & Medium Voltage motors is a plus.
- Experience in project management is a plus.
- Experience on selection of various types of sensors
- Experience with Functional Safety Systems is a plus
Skills and Personal Attributes:
- Highly autonomous, capable of making decisions, work with minimum supervision.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and effective interpersonal skills are required.
- Well developed computer skills.
- Product knowledge of major mining equipment is a plus.
- Must be able to function effectively both as a member of a team and as an individual contributor.
- Ability to complete assigned tasks in the time allotted with limited supervision.
- Highly motivated individual with the ability to work under stress and meet deadlines.
- Must be capable of effectively working on several projects at one time.
- Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
