Summary
This position will provide leadership and management of Metso’s Services Grinding, Bulk, Pyro and Smelting ( SVS GBPS) Project Engineering group including Mechanical, Structural engineering focusing on the Grinding, Bulk material handling Products, globally.
The position will work to maintain and enhance the reputation for providing consistently accurate and on-time engineering designs to Metso’s client base. The Project Engineering Manager will create a work environment that allows staff to maintain quality, timely deliveries and project profitability by helping efficiently manage resources, use consistent and appropriate engineering practices, project management methodologies and design/engineering tools and techniques.
The position will also be responsible for maintaining and developing the technical competency of self and staff while driving Project Engineering in close co-ordination with other managerial counterparts globally.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Represent the Project Engineering function in the Business Line.
- Leading the Project Engineering team of Grinding, BMH, Pyro & Smelting Services products by executing the Engineer to order assignment
- Developing and maintaining resourcing and competency in engineering to deliver the Project Engineering assignment as per yearly plan.
- Lead the development, implementation and maintenance of engineering procedures, guidelines, Engineering manual, playbook and standards with the help of SMEs.
- Manage project engineering operations for assigned groups both locally and globally.
- Coordinate with Global Engineering groups to ensure consistency and uniformity in Engineering designs and deliverables.
- Working closely with Product Line Engineering and Product Managers, provide technical guidance to other departments including Sales & Proposals, Order Management, Manufacturing, Procurement & Logistics, Project Management, Product Quality Management and Field Service.
- Continuous review, improvement and development of working processes and procedures in responsibility
- Resourcing and organization of external capacity, if required
- Monitor use, development and application of Metso IP
- Align Engineering functional processes and workflows with all functional groups in the business life cycle.
- Maintain a Continuous Improvement mindset in Metso’s PLM.
- Monitor, review and evaluate engineering performance and take corrective action if required.
- Ensure that all work complies to relevant statutory requirements and standards, as applicable.
- Ensure that all the equipment designed by the department is fit and safe for the intended application.
- Provide project support to ensure optimum scheduling for engineering resources.
- Provide oversight and guidance for the improvement of engineering support tools and databases.
- Motivates high levels of performance within the department.
- Resolve team members personnel and location specific issues in coordination with HR.
- Participates in hiring and employment decisions and conducts regular performance review meetings with employees to give timely feedback.
- Assists employees with development needs and sets performance targets and objectives. To ensure for successful implementation of “Engineering Certification Program”
- Sees that employees conform to company policies.
Qualifications :
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering / engineering technology (or equivalent experience) required.
- Minimum fifteen (15) years’ engineering experience in an applicable industry
- Minimum ten (5) years’ experience in an engineering management/supervisory position
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience in Product Development or R&D position
- Experience with SAP software/databases or equivalent required.
- Experience with CAD software and EDM systems preferred (Autodesk Inventor preferred )
- Experience with PLM concepts (Enovia) , software ( SAP S4 Hana preferred) or methodology preferred.
- Experience in functions such as product design, procurement, fabrication, and quality control added advantage.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- A proven track record of professional accomplishments and reliability.
- High level of MS Office and software skills
- Knowledge of typical business transactions and typical PLM methodology.
- Passionate and engaging individual with focus on improving the operations and business growth.
- Demonstrated leadership and collaboration skills that ensure effective relationship with key stakeholders across the operations and functions.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, establish deadlines and oversee completion of multiple assignments with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Builds successful relations that focus on productivity and effective problem solving.
- Possesses strong financial acumen, including analytical skills, in addition to possession of intermediate math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, decimals and fractions, geometry) for calculations, graphics, etc. Completes multi-step processes which include the calculations of discounts, addition and subtraction of fees, etc.
- Ability to understand engineering drawings and processes required.
- Builds and manages internal relationships; demonstrated negotiation skills.
- Demonstrates strong drive, performance orientation and ability to work under pressure.
- Possesses good interpersonal, communication and presentation skills to manage internal and external interfaces.
- Demonstrates capabilities to support management processes, including strategy process, talent development and performance management.
- Fluent in English. Utilization of other country’s specific language skills desirable.
- International travel is required, up to 25% of the year.
