Introduction
We are seeking a Mechanical and Commissioning Field Service Supervisor to join our Field Services team within the Systems Group, BA Aggregates.
In this role, you will supervise the mechanical installation, pre‑commissioning, commissioning, and performance testing of brand‑new crushing and screening plants, both in France and abroad.
You will ensure safe, high‑quality execution of all mechanical and process start‑up activities, from preparation to final handover to the customer.
This position reports to the Systems Field Service Manager based in Mâcon, France, part of Systems project department.
Although the role is based in Mâcon, it requires 100% travel to customer sites and Metso locations for project execution and training.
What you’ll do
- Mechanical Installation Supervision
- Coordinate and supervise all mechanical installation activities for crushing & screening plants (structures, conveyors, feeders, crushers, screens, ancillary equipment).
- Review technical documentation (assembly drawings, P&IDs, specifications, lifting plans, packing lists).
- Organize site, storage areas, pre‑assembly zones, and lifting operations.
- Supervise and final setting of all Metso range of machines (crusher, screens, others)
- Supervise pre‑assembly, structural erection, equipment positioning, conveyor installation, alignment, and mechanical finishing.
- Verify dimensional tolerances, alignments, bolt tightening, and mechanical interfaces.
- Manage subcontractors, resources, tools, lifting equipment, and daily work planning.
- Ensure strict compliance with HSE rules and lead daily toolbox talks.
- Validate mechanical readiness: lubrication, alignments, belt tensioning, screen settings, safety devices, guards, and interlocks.
- Conduct functional tests (I/O checks, safety circuits, rotation tests).
- Document findings, raise non‑conformities, and coordinate corrective actions.
- Pre-commissioning, Commissioning & Performance Testing
- Validate mechanical readiness: lubrication, alignments, belt tensioning, screen settings, safety devices, guards, and interlocks.
- Conduct functional tests (I/O checks, safety circuits, rotation tests).
- Document findings, raise non‑conformities, and coordinate corrective actions.
- Lead no‑load and load commissioning of crushers, screens, feeders, conveyors, and process equipment.
- Monitor vibrations, temperatures, motor loads, and process behavior.
- Optimize machine settings and process parameters to achieve contractual performance (throughput, gradation, stability).
- Coordinate multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, automation, process).
- Conduct sampling, measurements, and performance validation with the customer.
- Prepare commissioning reports, test records, and final documentation.
- Customer Training & Handover
- Train operators and maintenance teams on safe operation, adjustments, and best practices.
- Support the project manager during mechanical and commissioning acceptance.
- Contribute to project close‑out and lessons learned (REX).
- Reporting & Administration
- Provide daily and weekly progress reports, risk identification, and resource needs.
- Manage timesheets, expenses, safety documentation, and job closing files.
- Ensure accurate documentation of mechanical checks, ITPs, and commissioning results.
Who you are
- Technical Background
- Degree or vocational training in mechanical engineering, industrial maintenance, electromechanics, or similar.
- 5–10 years of experience in mechanical installation or commissioning of industrial plants (mining, aggregates, cement, heavy industry).
- Strong knowledge of crushers, screens, conveyors, feeders, and process equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, lifting plans, and technical documentation.
- Experience supervising teams and subcontractors on construction or commissioning sites.
