INTRODUCTION
We're looking for a Service Manager to own Metso's enterprise network services across 17,000 employees in close to 50 countries and up to 150 sites, from manufacturing facilities and service centers to headquarters operations in Finland.
This is a service ownership role, not a hands-on technical position. You'll manage vendor relationships, ensure service delivery runs smoothly, and own projects like network installations across Metso sites. You need enough technical background to understand what you're managing (SD-WAN, SASE, Firewalls), but you won't be troubleshooting tickets or configuring equipment yourself.
The role splits roughly between strategic work (roadmap planning, technology evaluation, project management) and operational responsibilities (vendor coordination, contract oversight, service quality monitoring).
This role is ideal if you:
- Have solid network/security technical experience and want to leverage it strategically.
- Are comfortable with both the "exciting" work (roadmaps, architecture) and the "essential" work (operations, vendor management, contracts).
- Think proactively; you don't wait to be told what needs attention.
- Want exposure to global enterprise scale (not just Nordic markets).
- Are ready to own outcomes, not just complete tasks.
The service scope may evolve year to year based on business needs. This requires someone comfortable with ambiguity who proactively identifies what needs attention rather than waiting for assignments.
THE TEAM YOU'LL JOIN
You'll report to Tommi Loponen, Head of Network Services, within Metso's IT Infrastructure organization. This isn't a people management role (no direct reports), but you'll lead work across the enterprise networks service area. This role is about coordinating with internal IT teams, managing vendor relationships (expect weekly or sometimes daily vendor meetings), and working with the Enterprise Architecture team on strategic direction.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
During the first 12 months, your primary focus will be on finalizing our SASE/SDWAN project, which will establish the foundation for our future network services. Your involvement spans from project execution to operational handover and ongoing development.
Strategic Work
- Own the Network Services portfolio: pipeline management, 3–5 year roadmaps, and technology direction
- Evaluate new technologies and drive service improvements
- Make decisions on vendor relationships and service priorities
Operational Work
- Maintain service excellence: Including demand, capacity and availability management.
- Own and manage budgets, invoices, and contracts (essential but routine)
- Coordinate vendor relationships.
- Monitor service levels and ensure security compliance across all configurations
- Manage service life cycles and documentation.
Key technologies: SD-WAN, SASE/SSE, firewalls, Azure networking, global connectivity. The scope may evolve (think satellite connectivity).
WHO YOU ARE
Required
- 5-8 years in IT infrastructure, network, or security roles with strong fundamentals
- Previous network expertise: SD-WAN, SASE/SSE, firewalls, enterprise networking
- Network security knowledge: practical risk assessment and mitigation
- Service management comfort: you understand operational work matters as much as technical work
- Global perspective: experience across international operations
- Fluent English for global collaboration
Preferred
- ITIL framework knowledge
- Agile methodologies (SAFE, Scrum, Kanban)
- Management or senior expert experience
- Public company exposure
WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU
This is a chance to step up from technical specialist to service owner, or from smaller company scale to true enterprise complexity. You'll:
- Broaden your scope - manage multiple services across global operations.
- Gain international experience - close to 50 countries.
- Develop strategic skills - move from execution to ownership and planning.
- Grow with the role - service area may expand, creating new opportunities.
- True global exposure - not "international" in name only.
- Continuous learning - technologies and scope evolve.
