INTRODUCTION

Lead the delivery of large-scale mining technology projects, from early engineering through commissioning, for one of the world's foremost sustainable technology companies. As Project Director within Metso's Minerals business area, you'll take full ownership of EPS projects valued up to €100M and beyond, leading cross-functional teams of up to 30 people across a typical two-year project lifecycle. The role is office-based with approximately 10–15% travel, increasing during installation and commissioning phases.

THE TEAM YOU BELONG TO

You'll join Metso's Performance Solutions function in the Minerals business area, reporting to the Senior Director, Project Management. The Plant and Solutions Delivery organization you'll be part of serves as a Minerals-wide capability: your projects may span hydrometallurgy, smelting, integrated plant solutions, and other technologies across the full Minerals segment.

Your project teams scale with each phase. During early engineering you'll work with roughly 10 specialists; by full EPS execution, the team grows to around 30, drawing from project management, commissioning, site management, engineering, document control, and the India engineering team. Team members report functionally to their line managers but work under your direction within the project, and you carry full accountability for what the team delivers.

Beyond the project organization, your stakeholders include customers, cooperation partners, the project Steering Committee, and internal support functions across multiple Business Lines and Market Areas.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

In your first 12 months, you'll:

  • Complete an intensive onboarding into Metso's technology portfolio, business processes, and tools, supported by a dedicated buddy and structured orientation sessions with the process group and product groups
  • Take ownership of your first independent project (likely a smaller-scope delivery), executing it against contractually agreed KPIs for schedule, budget, quality, and safety
  • Build working relationships across the Delivery organization, Market Areas, and key customer accounts to establish yourself as a trusted project leader within Metso

Your core responsibilities include:

  • Direct all phases of EPS project execution: engineering, purchasing, logistics, installation, and commissioning, delivering on schedule, budget, and quality commitments
  • Carry full technical and financial responsibility for projects, from sales support through warranty fulfillment
  • Manage project risks, change orders, and contractual obligations with discipline and commercial awareness
  • Serve as the primary customer interface, building confident and transparent relationships throughout the project lifecycle
  • Lead cross-functional project teams of up to 30 people, coaching team members and identifying add-on sales opportunities

WHO YOU ARE

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Engineering, preferably Mechanical or Chemical
  • 10+ years of experience managing large-scale delivery projects (EPS or similar scope), with demonstrated ability to manage multiple sub-projects and maintain oversight of the full picture
  • Background in the mining and metals industry, with an understanding of the operational and technical environment these projects serve
  • Effective English communication skills, written and verbal, with the ability to operate across cultures and geographies

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience from the customer or owner side of mining projects (e.g., capital project delivery for a mining company), bringing an investor's perspective to how projects are planned and executed
  • Domain expertise in mineral processing technologies such as comminution, flotation, or hydrometallurgy
  • Track record of working in a technology supplier or EPC environment, managing projects with both technical delivery and commercial accountability

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU

You own your projects. The day-to-day decisions are yours; the Steering Committee gets involved only when you bring an issue to them, and they decide based on what you propose. Freedom with responsibility is the operating principle and the scope of individual authority in this role is large.

You grow by taking on bigger, harder projects. The first assignment might be a contained delivery in a single technology area. Two years later, it could be a full plant project spanning multiple countries and process technologies. The progression is concrete: more complexity, more budget, more geography, more stakeholders.

We don’t expect you to arrive knowing Metso equipment, processes, or internal tools. The onboarding is structured: a buddy, orientation sessions with the process and product groups, and several months before you're expected to run a project independently. This is a long-term hire, and the ramp-up reflects that
