Introduction
We are seeking an experienced Product Automation Engineer to join our Smelting aftermarket team. This position is ideal for candidates with a couple of years of engineering experience in heavy industry, who are ready to further advance their careers in engineering and product development. In this role, you will be leading and designing the product development for Metso equipment as well as third-party systems.
You will report to the Aki Laaninen, Senior Manager, Product Engineering.
This position is preferably based in Espoo, Finland, but we are also open to considering Lappeenranta, Oberursel, or Skellefteå.
This position could include up to 20% travel.
What you’ll do
- Partner with local market teams to collect and analyze field data for product development.
- Collaborate directly with customers on projects to understand their needs and deliver tailored solutions.
- Drive innovation in smelting products through hands-on support and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Share your expertise by training Metso colleagues—both formally and informally.
- Design new components, upgrades and modernizations to existing products and automation systems.
- Take on additional responsibilities that contribute to team and project success.
Who you are
- You have a Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering or a related field, along with 3–5 years of relevant engineering experience in an industrial environment.
- You are proficient in Siemens TIA Portal and ideally also have experience with PCS 7; you are comfortable using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- You have a solid understanding of smelting operations, automation systems, and industrial processes, with familiarity in metallurgy, instrumentation, and electrification considered an advantage.
- You work independently, take ownership of your tasks, and apply strong analytical and problem-solving skills in your work.
- You have experience working with customers, including technical discussions and the ability to identify and address customer needs.
- You communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and presentations, and collaborate confidently across different levels of the organization.
- You are well organized and capable of managing your tasks and projects in a structured and efficient manner.
