We are seeking a Director, Global Logistics Category Sourcing – Ocean Freight to join our Global Logistics Services team at Metso. In this strategic role, you will lead global ocean freight category sourcing, shape supplier partnerships, and drive strong performance across regions. You will report directly to the VP, Global Logistics Services.
The preferred location for this position is Espoo, Tampere, or Lappeenranta (Finland), with flexible working arrangements including hybrid options. Please note that this role requires up to 20% travel.
About the Team
Global Logistics Services is responsible for:
- Logistics category sourcing and partner management,
- Distribution center operations,
- Warehouse and packaging quality assurance, and
- Logistics sustainability.
You’ll join a high-impact global team to drive logistics category strategy execution and deliver business results.
What you’ll do:
- Own and lead the global ocean freight logistics category sourcing,
- Manage a portfolio of logistics service providers (LSPs) and ensure their high-caliber performance,
- Drive competitive sourcing cycles and ensure compliance, and
- Collaborate across business areas, regions, and functions to deliver cost competitiveness, operational excellence, and sustainability outcomes at scale
Key Responsibilities
- Category Strategy & Roadmap: Define and execute a multi-year global sourcing strategy for ocean freight (door-to-door), including pricing models and supplier portfolio evolution.
- Supplier Portfolio: Ensure supplier portfolio competitiveness, develop and manage LSP relationships, lead negotiations, ensure rate accuracy, manage agreements,
- Supplier performance: Drive for superior supplier performance, effectively address service level discrepancies, and manage tactical mitigation when needed
- Cost, Risk & Analytics: Drive total cost optimization through analysis and scenario planning; manage spend forecasts and reporting; assess market, regulatory, and environmental risks; ensure data quality and transparent KPIs.
- Process & Technology: Partner with IT and operations on leveraging digital tools (e.g., Transportation Management System) and related reporting priorities; support visibility tools (e.g., track & trace).
- Stakeholder & Change Leadership: Engage global stakeholders, align solutions to business needs, communicate effectively, and lead change initiatives.
Who you are?
- 10+ years in logistics procurement/category management with strong ocean freight expertise and global scope
- Proven success in leading tenders, complex negotiations, and supplier development
- Strong analytical skills in spend analysis, cost drivers, and risk management in volatile markets
- Experience with transportation management systems, rate management, and data/reporting
- Excellent communication skills and ability to operate in a global matrix organization
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field
