Senior Product Technical Support Engineer – Stirred Mills
Introduction
The Senior Product Technical Support Engineer owns and drives technical expertise for Metso stirred mill technologies (HIGmill, VTM, SMD) with a strong focus on process support, operational optimization and performance improvement at customer sites worldwide. The role combines technical leadership, customer-facing process support, operational and process data analysis, and collaboration with engineering and process teams to improve grinding efficiency, equipment reliability, plant availability and overall process performance.
What you’ll do
Technical Support & Customer Interface
- Lead technical support for customers and internal stakeholders regarding the operation, performance and maintenance of stirred mill equipment.
- Support plant operations through process troubleshooting, circuit assessments and operational optimization activities, including interaction with PLC and process control systems where applicable, and identify opportunities to improve grinding efficiency, throughput, energy efficiency and equipment availability.
- Lead site visits to investigate technical issues, lead commissioning activities and identify improvement opportunities.
Technical Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Drive analysis of operational, process and metallurgical data to support performance assessments, identify process bottlenecks and develop optimization opportunities for stirred milling applications.
- Support process audits, performance benchmarking and optimization studies for grinding circuits and associated process systems.
- Lead technical studies, root cause investigations and preliminary risk assessments related to equipment performance or failures.
- Develop and recommend technical solutions in collaboration with product engineering, service teams and suppliers.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across the installed base.
Product & Engineering Collaboration
- Support engineering and product development teams with field feedback and operational insights from installed equipment.
- Drive continuous product improvement initiatives and internal technical projects.
- Maintain technical documentation and product data within the PLM environment throughout the product lifecycle.
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 Years experience in the mining, minerals processing or cement industry.
- Understanding of grinding circuit operation, mineral processing principles and process optimization methodologies is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with stirred milling, in particular high speed ceramic media mills, is a plus.
- Strong and proven technical expertise of industrial equipment and mechanical systems.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret operational, process and metallurgical data and translate findings into practical optimization measures.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to interact with international customers and internal teams.
- Familiarity with PLM systems and engineering tools is an advantage.
- Experience with PLC systems, industrial automation or process control systems is highly beneficial.
- Confident handling of the common MS Office programs, very good Excel knowledge.
- Understanding of FE analyses is an advantage.
- Strong customer-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving capabilities.
- Structured and analytical approach to technical challenges.
- Ability to work effectively in a global, cross-functional team environment.
- Fluency in English, any additional language beneficial.
- Willingness to travel internationally (approximately 20%) to support customer sites and commissioning activities.
