Introduction
We are seeking an Application Engineer to join the NCA Pumps Proposal team. You will be responsible for providing technical expertise to slurry pump product sales which involves product selection, proposal preparation, and ongoing technical support. Your role plays a crucial part in North American equipment sales, which will contribute to Metso’s mining portfolio. In this position, you will report to Manager, Application and Quotation Support.
This position is primarily located in Columbia, SC, USA with up to 10% domestic and international travel, but we are happy to offer flexible working arrangements, including hybrid options.

You will join a team of application and project engineers that strive to deliver technical expertise to our customers and sales team. We are currently growing our mining pump business in NCA.
We work closely with internal and external stakeholders, such as EPCs, Sales, Order Engineering, Quality, Aftermarket, and R&D. Our team culture is all about collaboration to achieve customer success. The members in our team are located in Columbia, SC, USA.
What you'll do:
- Assist Sales/Dealers with Technical and Application support, sizing of pumps, Cyclones and Hoses.
- Provide quotation support to sales/dealers for complete pumps and larger projects.
- Calculate prices & cost for pumps not in standard price/cost lists.
- Review and understand technical specifications and drawings from an engineering company or client.
- Support all our “customers” (other BLs, dealers, EPCs, etc) with competence related to slurry handling projects and/or issues.
- Work as a backup for colleagues when appropriate/needed.
- Document support provided to facilitate effective handover to factory.
- Follow up on given support work.
- Be a mentor for other Proposal teams and members as required.
- Support and assist the Warranty/Service team when requested.
- Support internal departments with technical knowledge related to our pumps.
- Assist in the compilation and preparation of monthly progress reports by giving input on the progress of pump related business.
- Assist the Sales/Support teams to successfully execute the business and maintain an ethical, proficient and co-operative approach with clients, suppliers and colleagues.
- Develop and maintain the relation with MA Sales/customers through travels, meetings, presentations, education and representations.
- Work with continuous improvements related to procedures and tools within the Pumps BL and Columbia Operations.
- Requires travel, both domestic and international
Who you are:
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering preferred, technical background
- related experience
- Basic knowledge in pumps is desirable. Relevant pump knowledge means achieved through academic studies or practical experience of centrifugal pumps
- General knowledge within the area of minerals and mineral processing is beneficial
- To fit in the role, you have a great interest in technology, you see problem solving as something fun and fulfilling
- You like to work within a team, and you can remain calm during stressful situations where the workload can be high
- Experience in quotation work is an asset
- Project management experience is an asset.
- Good communication skills in English are required. Spanish language skills are beneficial.
- Good computer skills in Microsoft Office, SAP and general adaptability to new tools is a requirement.
- Prior experience in a customer service role or support function role is a plus.
