Job Title: Quality Manager – Bulk Material Handling, Cape Town, South Africa
We are seeking a Quality Manager – Bulk Material Handling to lead the development, implementation, and oversight of quality assurance and control systems for bulk material handling infrastructure across South African ports. This role is essential in ensuring full compliance with South African National Standards (SANS), ISO standards, and port-specific regulations. The Quality Manager will play a key role in embedding quality into every phase of project execution, from design and procurement to construction and commissioning.
The successful candidate will promote continuous improvement, lead audits and inspections, and implement corrective actions to enhance performance and ensure regulatory compliance.

TEAM YOU WILL BELONG TO
You will be part of a multidisciplinary project team focused on bulk material handling infrastructure in South African ports. In this role, you will collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Compliance, and Client representatives, to ensure quality standards are upheld across all phases of project delivery.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Develop and maintain Quality Management Plans (QMPs) aligned with ISO 9001:2015 / SANS 9001 and project-specific requirements.
- Integrate SANS standards relevant to lifting equipment, conveyors, and structural components (e.g., SANS 10375, SANS 1595, SANS 2408).
- Align quality objectives with the National Ports Act (No. 12 of 2005) and Port Regulations.
- Ensure adherence to Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) rules and guidelines.
- Comply with Ports Regulator principles for equitable access and operational efficiency.
- Follow Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Guidelines for Ports, Harbors, and Terminals.
- Maintain compliance with the ISPS Code for maritime security.
- Oversee QA/QC activities during design, procurement, fabrication, construction, and commissioning of bulk handling systems (e.g., conveyors, stackers, ship loaders).
- Conduct supplier and contractor audits, inspections, and performance reviews.
- Manage non-conformance reports (NCRs), corrective actions (CARs), and root cause analyses.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, certifications, and quality documentation in line with SABS and NRCS requirements.
- Prepare quality reports for internal stakeholders, clients, and regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate with engineering, HSE, procurement, and project management teams.
- Liaise with SAMSA, Ports Regulator, and SABS for regulatory updates and compliance matters.
- Lead lessons learned workshops and implement improvement initiatives.
- Benchmark against international best practices and local performance metrics (e.g., TNPA operational efficiency goals)
WHO YOU ARE
- Degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field.
- Minimum 8 years in quality roles within port infrastructure, mining, or bulk material handling.
- Familiarity with SANS, ISO, and South African port legislation.
- Experience with heavy industrial systems and maritime operations.
HARD AND SOFT SKILLS ESSENTIAL FOR THIS ROLE
- Proven adaptability and resilience in complex, high-stakes industrial and regulatory environments
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including regulatory liaison and client interaction
- Ability to prepare and deliver clear, data-driven technical reports and presentations to diverse audiences
- Strong balance of independent initiative and collaborative teamwork across multidisciplinary project teams
- High attention to detail, urgency, and a commitment to quality and service excellence
- Effective leadership, supervision, and organizational capabilities in managing QA/QC teams and contractors
- Skilled in managing multiple concurrent projects, deadlines, and quality deliverables under pressure
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record, with flexibility to travel to port and project sites as needed
