Introduction

We are looking for a Logistics Specialist – Inbound to join our Logistics team in the Services business area. In this role, you will support the planning, coordination, and execution of inbound air, ocean, and express shipments into South Africa, helping ensure imports are delivered on time, cost-effectively, and in compliance with customs and import requirements.

You will report to the Senior Manager, Logistics SVS – Africa, and the role location is Centurion, Gauteng, with a hybrid working model available.

Team you will belong to

You will join the Logistics team, which is responsible for supporting the efficient movement of goods into South Africa while maintaining compliance, service reliability, and supply chain performance. The team plays an important role in ensuring inbound shipments are cleared, delivered, and managed effectively to support business continuity and customer commitments.

The team collaborates closely with Purchasing, Services Project Procurement, Delivery Teams, Project Managers, Supply Chain Operations, Supplier Quality, HSE, Finance, Legal, other Metso procurement organizations, Key External Suppliers, and Backlog & Exception Management (BEM). Team members are based in Centurion and work closely with logistics partners and internal stakeholders to resolve operational challenges and improve inbound logistics performance.

What you'll do

  • Coordinate and manage inbound air, ocean, and express shipments into South Africa from shipment readiness through customs clearance and final delivery.
  • Support import customs clearance activities by preparing, reviewing, and validating documentation, clearance instructions, and supporting information.
  • Work closely with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and Logistics Service Providers (LSPs) to ensure imports are cleared accurately and within required timelines.
  • Monitor inbound shipments, proactively manage delays, customs holds, delivery exceptions, and coordinate corrective actions when required.
  • Support inbound ocean, air freight, and express logistics activities, including shipment tracking, booking follow-up, documentation management, and delivery coordination.
  • Resolve customs, transportation, delivery, and logistics system issues while providing timely updates to stakeholders on shipment status and exceptions.
  • Support invoice processing, claims management, proof-of-delivery follow-up, reporting, and performance monitoring activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, process efficiency, compliance, and knowledge sharing while providing backup support to the Senior Inbound Logistics resource.

What you'll bring

  • Demonstrated experience in logistics, freight forwarding, imports, customs-related operations, or a related supply chain environment.
  • Strong practical knowledge of South African import processes, customs clearance requirements, and import documentation.
  • Experience coordinating air and ocean imports and working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and Logistics Service Providers.
  • Good understanding of Incoterms and international trade requirements.
  • Ability to resolve customs queries, shipment exceptions, delivery issues, and other logistics challenges effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly when reviewing import and customs documentation.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across functions and external partners.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining service quality and compliance.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Customer- and service-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Good computer literacy, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Fluent English communication skills, both written and spoken.
  • Willingness to travel to the Distribution Centre at Plumbago Park when required and flexibility to support occasional after-hours activities.

Nice to have

  • Experience coordinating express imports.
  • Experience using SAP.
  • Diploma or degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or a related field.
