JOB TITLE: GENERAL WORKER BASED IN ALRODE, ALBERTON

 

We are seeking a General Worker to join our PSE Repairs Team.

 

In this position, you will report to the Department Supervisor. This position is mainly located in Alrode, Alberton, South Africa.

 

TEAM YOU BELONG TO

You will join the PSE Repairs Department and work closely with them to support workshop operations and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.

 

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Assist with basic welding and gauging activities within the workshop.
  • Support assembly and stripping processes as required.
  • Assist artisans with assembly, disassembly, and painting activities.
  • Perform general workshop support and non-production-related steelwork.
  • Clean components using approved cleaning agents before assembly, inspection, or repair.
  • Ensure the effective and responsible use of cleaning materials, chemicals, and equipment.
  • Prepare components, materials, and work areas for workshop activities.
  • Assist with workshop housekeeping and maintain a clean, safe, and organised work environment.
  • Support workshop operations to ensure efficient completion of repair and maintenance activities.
  • Adhere to company procedures, policies, and values.
  • Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
  • Participate in safety initiatives and continuous improvement activities within the workshop.

 

WHO YOU ARE

  • Matric (Grade 12) will be advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a heavy engineering, manufacturing, fabrication, or workshop environment.
  • Exposure to welding, fabrication, and gauging activities.
  • Previous experience in industrial cleaning within an engineering or workshop environment.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and literacy skills.
  • Bilingual, with the ability to communicate effectively in two languages.
  • Basic understanding of workshop safety standards and procedures.

 

 

WHAT SKILLS, COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS (HARD AND SOFT) ARE ESSENTIAL FOR THIS ROLE?

  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively within a team.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of housekeeping and safety.
  • Ability to safely use basic workshop tools and equipment.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing manual labour in an engineering workshop environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 kg.
  • Good visual abilities, including close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Medically fit to perform duties within a heavy engineering environment.
  • Comfortable working at heights, including climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding when required.
  • Basic problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and report equipment or workplace issues.
  • Commitment to adhering to all workplace health, safety, and environmental regulations.
