JOB TITLE: WORKSHOP ASSISTANT BASED IN ALRODE

We are seeking a Workshop Assistant to join our Workshop Team.

In this position, you will report to the Workshop Supervisor. This position is mainly located in Alrode, Alberton.

TEAM YOU BELONG TO

You will join the Workshop Team and work closely with the PSE Repairs team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Assist artisans with assembly and disassembly activities on components and equipment.
• Clean parts and components prior to assembly, inspection, and testing.
• Prepare equipment, components, tools, and materials for assembly and disassembly processes.
• Assist with the preparation and execution of testing activities.
• Safely use hand tools, hydraulic tools, and pneumatic equipment as required.
• Ensure the effective and responsible use of cleaning materials, chemicals, and equipment.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised workshop environment.
• Handle components and materials in accordance with company procedures and safety standards.
• Support workshop operations to ensure production and repair activities are completed efficiently.
• Stand in for Forklift Drivers and Crane Operators during periods of absence or leave, where required.
• Assist with basic inspections and workshop support activities as directed by the Supervisor.
• Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and values.
• Ensure compliance with occupational health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.
• Participate in safety initiatives and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop.

WHO YOU ARE

• Matric (Grade 12) will be advantageous.
• Previous experience in an engineering workshop, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environment.
• Experience in component cleaning and workshop support activities.
• Valid Forklift Licence would be advantageous
• Valid Overhead Crane Licence would be advantageous
• Experience operating forklifts and cranes in a heavy engineering environment.
• Ability to communicate effectively in two languages (bilingual).
• Basic literacy and communication skills.

• Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, and perform repetitive physical tasks over extended periods.
• Ability to lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 kg.
• Good visual abilities, including close vision, distance vision, colour vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus accurately.
• Medically fit for work in a heavy industrial environment.
• Comfortable working at heights, including climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding when required.
• Reliable, responsible, and committed to maintaining high standards of housekeeping and safety.
